‘The tears rolled down Robert Carlyle’s face when he opened the letter, complete with royal crest, inviting him to Buckingham Palace next Thursday to receive his OBE from the Queen. So was he overcome with emotion at an honour usually bestowed on those of acting colleagues who have reached an age well in advance of his 37 years? Well, not quite. “I burst out laughing,” he says. “I’m not one to go into fits of laughter, but I actually had tears in my eyes. I mean, generally you get an OBE when you’re nearly dead, so I began to wonder. And certainly you don’t get it if you come from Maryhill in Glasgow. Very, very odd.” Nevertheless, Robert will don full morning suit and go off to collect his gong, accompanied by his father Joe, his wife Anastasia and her mother. In fact, it was their attitude that made all the difference. “My dad was so proud,” says Robert, “that suddenly I began to look at it in a different way and realise what it meant to a slightly older generation. And Anastasia’s mother nearly fainted, she was so pleased and proud.” The honor shows that Robert Carlyle has “arrived” on the British acting scene, but he isn’t even sure about that. “Maybe not ‘arrived,’” he says carefully. “But it certainly is a marker in your life. You begin to think maybe you’re affecting more people than you realise.”….”You tend to get pushed in different directions and I can control it better back home.” Home is Glasgow, where he lives with wife Anastasia, whom he met six years ago when she was a make-up artist on the TV series Cracker. They’ve been married for two years, and he is keen on the idea of babies. She’ll be there by his side at Buckingham Palace on Thursday when Robert collects his OBE. And this time let’s hope he can keep a straight face.’ - Sunday Mirror.

‘The actor said that he joked with Her Majesty about his latest film role. When she questioned him about what work he was doing, he replied, “Well, I have been trying to kill James Bond this week.” His close cropped hair—cut especially for his role in the film—created a stir at the palace. Carlyle said when the Queen first saw him she asked “How did you get in here?”’ - BBC News Entertainment
